About this car

The aluminum pushrod tubes and plates were hand-polished. A circular glass tabletop rests atop the engine.

Lycoming Engines traces its origins to 1845, when Madame Ellen Louise Demorest founded the Demorest Fashion and Sewing-Machine Company. The company later explored bicycle production before expanding into automobile engine manufacturing and restructuring as the Lycoming Foundry and Machine Company. In 1929, Lycoming produced its first aviation engine, the nine-cylinder R-680. Versions of the R-680 remained in production until 1945 and were used in aircraft including the Beechcraft AT-10 Wichita, Stinson Reliant, Curtiss-Wright AT-9, and Stinson Airliner.

The glass top rests on supports mounted to each of the nine cylinder heads. Swiveling, lockable casters support the engine. A reproduction data plate is affixed to the engine.
