About this car

This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette coupe was modified while under the ownership of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Rusty Wallace, and it is powered by a ZZ383 V8 that is said to have been assembled by engine builder Doug Yates. The engine utilizes MSD ignition and a performance cooling system, and it is linked with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The body has a custom tail panel, removable T-top roof panels, a domed hood, and black paint with silver and red stripes, and further modifications include Bilstein shocks, composite front and rear transverse leaf springs, four-wheel SSBC disc brakes, and exhaust headers that lead to side-pipe outlets. Inside, the bolstered bucket seats are trimmed in black leather with red accents and are joined by air conditioning, power windows, and a Kenwood Bluetooth receiver.

The fiberglass body has been refinished in black with metallic silver stripes and red accents. Exterior details include pop-up headlights, fender air vents, a custom rear valance, ZZ383 graphics, chrome side pipes, recessed quad taillights, front fender hashmarks, and raised “CORVETTE” lettering on the rear fascia.

Chrome-finished Forgeline wheels measure 18″ in diameter up front and 19″ out back, and they are mounted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The car is equipped with a VBP suspension system that utilizes fiberglass front and rear transverse leaf springs and Bilstein shocks. Stopping power is provided by SSBC red-finished calipers over slotted rotors at all four corners.

The aftermarket bucket seats are trimmed in black leather with red piping. Interior amenities include air conditioning, power windows, a Long shifter, and a Kenwood multimedia receiver mounted in the center stack. A silver “Rusty Wallace #2” signature is found on the glove compartment door.

The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames an AutoMeter GPS speedometer and tachometer, while matching readouts for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil temperature, oil pressure, and voltage are found on the center stack. The digital odometer shows 1,900 miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
