This 1996 BMW 528i was first registered by BMW AG on January 23, 1996, and deregistered two weeks later on February 7, 1996. It subsequently spent nearly three decades in storage as part of the company’s collection before being sold by BMW Group Classic in July 2023 with 101 kilometers (~63 miles) on the odometer. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over gray Montana leather with Technical Graphite interior trim, the car is powered by an M52 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. It rides on 15” Style 31 wheels and was specified from the factory with the HiFi System Professional DSP stereo along with a sunroof, heated front seats, and rear parking sensors.
Designed by Joji Nagashima, the E39 was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1995 to replace the E34. The fourth-generation 5-Series was built in sedan and wagon form through 2004 and was the first BMW to achieve over 1.5 million unit sales.
A copy of the German Fahrzeugbrief issued to the Bavarian Motor Works Corporation for this E39 on January 23, 1996, is shown above. According to a 2023 appraisal on display in the gallery, the car was moved to the BMW Museum in Munich for preparation, but was instead kept in storage.
The body is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic. A sunroof, fog lights, headlight washers, and rear parking sensors are further details.
The 15″ Style 31 Wheels were reportedly mounted with Dunlop SP Sport 2000 tires in 2023. Stopping power is from ventilated discs at all four corners.
