1997 Subaru Impreza WRX Tommykaira M20b 5-Speed

This 1997 Subaru Impreza WRX is one of a claimed 105 Tommykaira M20b sedans modified when new by Tomita Auto in Kyoto, Japan. Finished in Light Silver Metallic over black and gray cloth upholstery, the car is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter EJ20K flat-four linked to a five-speed manual transaxle and an all-wheel-drive system with a viscous center differential. Equipment highlights include a revised aero package with fog lamps and a dual-element rear wing as well as a MOMO/Tommykaira steering wheel, stainless-steel exhaust system, and multi-piece 17″ alloy wheels.

Tommykaira was founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of Tomita Auto in Japan and began tuning Mercedes-Benz models before moving to JDM vehicles circa 1988. An upgraded version of the contemporary Subaru Impreza, the M20b, was launched in 1993. The cars featured a variety of body modifications, interior additions, suspension changes, brake upgrades, and engine enhancements.

This example—serial number TK0937—is finished in Light Silver Metallic (406) with Tommykaira side graphics and badging. The aero package includes a revised front bumper cover as well as contoured side skirts and a dual-element rear wing. Additional exterior details include a hood scoop, fog lights, and a rear windscreen wiper. The front and rear bumpers have been repainted, and some lifting of the side decals can be observed in the gallery below.

Multi-piece 17″ Tommykaira wheels are wrapped in 225/45 Firehawk Indy 500V2 tires. Cygnus coilovers have been fitted, and other upgrades include a power steering cooler, a Cusco front lower control arm brace, and front and rear strut tower braces. Work in July 2026 involved replacing the rotors and pads as well as flushing the brake fluid. Pitting is noted on the wheels.

The bolstered front seats are trimmed in black and gray cloth, which extends to the rear bench. A Tommykaira shift knob and dead pedal are fitted along with Sparco aluminum pedal covers. Carbon-fiber-look trim accents the center stack, and additional appointments include an Addzest cassette stereo, automatic climate control, and a power sunroof.
