1973 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi 23-Window Conversion

This 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 is a Brazilian-market example that underwent a 23-window conversion and had a retractable beige cloth sunroof installed under previous ownership. The bus has been refinished in blue and white over ivory and tan vinyl upholstery and it is powered by an air-cooled 1.5L flat-four linked to a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes two roof racks, a side ladder, pop-out windshields, and 14″ steel wheels.

The bus received a 23-window conversion and was repainted in blue and white under prior ownership. A beige cloth retractable sunroof was also installed, and additional equipment includes two roof racks with wood slats, a ladder, outward-opening dual windshield panes, white-finished bumpers with overriders, dual side-view mirrors, and sliding side windows. The 14″ steel wheels wear trim rings and are mounted with older whitewall Pirelli tires. Braking is handled by drums at each corner. The hubcaps are missing from the right wheels.

The cab features a bench seat that has been reupholstered in ivory and tan vinyl along with matching door panels. An electric fan is mounted on the blue-painted dash, and a fire extinguisher is housed behind the seats.

The right-side barn doors open to reveal a rear cabin that features two matching rows of benches that fold to convert to a bed. Blue plaid curtains are hung in the windows, and the rear windows feature jail bars.
