About this boat

This 1964 Airstream Land Yacht Safari is a 22′ travel trailer with a floor plan that features a kitchenette, a bathroom with a shower, a sofa bed, and a lounge/dining area that converts into a sleeping surface. The trailer rides on 15″ alloy wheels and a single axle with electric drum brakes. The exterior is constructed of aluminum and has a screen door, roof-mounted air conditioning, and a folding side step. Propane tank mounts and a manual jack are located on the tongue. Outfitted with wrap-around seating, the interior is also appointed with a refrigerator, an electric heater, residential-style power outlets, and a stove with a four-burner cooktop.

Airstream introduced the Safari travel trailer in 1954 as an addition to the Land Yacht line. The aluminum-clad exterior of this example features six windows, an extended rear bumper with an integrated storage compartment, an entry door with a hinged screen panel, a folding boarding step, and Airstream badging. Dents and scratches are noted around the exterior, including transfer marks on the right front of the trailer.

The single-axle chassis rolls on 15″ alloy wheels that are wrapped in 225/75 Thunderer ST Radial R501 tires. Stopping power is provided by electric drum brakes. The trailer is equipped with a tongue jack, a seven-pin trailering harness, and a breakaway safety device.

Situated at the front of the trailer, the dinette features wraparound seating upholstered in seafoam green cloth, and the table can be lowered to form a sleeping surface.

The kitchenette is equipped with a sink, a dual-fuel refrigerator, a Magic Chef cooktop and oven, an exhaust vent, and laminate countertops. Storage consists of overhead cabinets, a vertical pantry, and two lower cabinets. Power-operated vents are mounted in the ceiling, and the adjacent sofa folds flat into a sleeping surface. House equipment includes a 120-volt power outlet, a roof-mounted air conditioner, and a Bowen gas-powered water heater.
