About this car

1959 Porsche 356A Carrera 1600 GS Coupe offered at online auction by Repo Vehicle Holdings. Bank-sourced car with a clear title, VIN history report, no buyer fees and a 30-day return window. Open bidding with the full bid history visible.

This 1959 Porsche 356A was delivered new to France through Automobiles Porsche Sonauto of Paris and is one of approximately 35 GS “de Luxe” coupes built for the final year of 356A production, all of which were equipped with a 1.6‑liter Type 692/2 four‑cam flat‑four that featured a plain‑bearing crankshaft and dry‑sump lubrication. The car has since been repainted in its factory shade of Silver Metallic and the interior was re-trimmed in red leather. Over $33k of work performed since 2025 has involved a refresh of the brakes, replacement of the tires, a rebuild of the distributors, a reseal of the dual Solex carburetors, and installation of a hidden electric fuel pump, CDI ignition units, a fuel pressure regulator, and an anti-drain back valve.

The Carrera variant was introduced in 1955 with power from a derivation of the four-cam engine designed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann for use in Porsche’s competition efforts. In 1957, the Carrera offerings were divided into the GT and GS, or de Luxe, models, with the latter more luxuriously equipped for comfortable road use, including solid glass windows, a cabin heater, adjustable seats, and chrome door pulls. Either Carrera specification could be chosen for coupe, cabriolet, or Speedster body styles.

Chassis 108186 came finished from the factory in Silver Metallic (5706/608) and was repainted in 2016, at which time replacement emblems and trim pieces were installed. Features include removable headlight grilles, a 550 Spyder-style mirror, twin rear grilles, and body-color bumpers without overriders. A Sonauto badge is retained on the decklid.

The 15″ ventilated steel wheels were mounted with Michelin XAS NO tires in May 2026. The drum brakes were refreshed in October 2025, including re-lining the shoes, resurfacing the drums, and replacing the wheel cylinders, brake hoses, and wheel bearings.
