1956 Continental · United States · Lender-owned, lien released
Refinished in blue over a blue-and-white interior, the car is powered by a 368ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power steering and brakes, turbine-style wheel covers, a power-adjustable front bench seat, power windows, and white leather upholstery with blue piping.
Continental was introduced as a stand-alone luxury subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company with the debut of the Mark II at the Paris Motor Show in October 1955. Designed by Ford’s Special Product Operations team, the Mark II was offered as the brand’s sole model and carried a base price of approximately $10,000. Just 2,994 coupes were produced between 1955 and 1957.
Refinished in its current shade of blue under prior ownership, the car is equipped with a hood ornament, a wrap-around windshield, a driver-side mirror, a retractable antenna, an egg-crate grille, chrome bumpers and trim, and a spare tire hump integrated into the decklid.
The wheels wear turbine-style covers and are mounted with whitewall tires. The Mark II rode on a Y-shaped chassis with a 126″ wheelbase and utilized temperature-sensitive front shock absorbers as well as additional suspension components adapted from the standard Lincoln lineup. The car was equipped from the factory with power-assisted steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drum brakes.
The bench seats have been reupholstered in white leather with blue piping and buttons, and the front bench is power-adjustable. The radio and the right rear power window switch does not work.
