About this car

Finished in black and gray over dark brown leather, the car is powered by a replacement 3.5-liter OHV inline-six linked to a Moss four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include 18” wire wheels, dual SU carburetors, electronic ignition, a steel sliding sunroof, and a tilt-up windshield.

The 3½ Litre model was introduced in 1938 as part of a range manufactured by SS Cars between 1935 and 1940, and it was later relaunched when the company returned under the Jaguar name in 1945. This example left the factory with saloon bodywork in Gunmetal and was refinished during a 1960s refurbishment in black and gray, with additional paintwork performed in the 1970s.

Exterior features include rear-hinged doors, a sliding steel sunroof, a louvered centrally hinged hood, Lucas tri-bar headlights, bumper-mounted front fog lamps, a tilt-up windshield, and a reproduction Leaper hood ornament. The factory trafficators have been removed from the B-pillars, after which their pockets were filled in, and the grille was re-chromed in the 2000s. Damage at one end of the hood hinge is noted, and the front bumper overriders are missing. Imperfections, including rust, are presented in the gallery.

The 18” knock-off wire wheels exhibit areas of corrosion and are mounted with AllState Safety Tread tires. A matching spare is secured in a compartment under the trunk. The suspension system features gaiter-wrapped semi-elliptical leaf springs and lever-arm hydraulic shock absorbers all around, and braking is handled by Girling mechanically actuated drums.

The left-hand-drive cabin has seating surfaces trimmed in dark brown leather with covers on the front seat cushions, and matching vinyl was fitted to the door panels in the 1960s. The leather is cracked and was noted to have been coated in the previous listing. The headliner had several holes, stains, and loose edges, rust is noted inside the left-hand glovebox, and the clamps that secure the windshield in the closed position are missing on each side.
