1955 Volkswagen · United States · Lender-owned, lien released
This 1955 Volkswagen Beetle Deluxe was initially delivered to Riviera Motors in San Francisco and remained with its first owner until 1967. The car would undergo periods of refurbishment while under the care of its second owner, who retained the car for 47 years before it was passed down to his son. Under subsequent ownership, the car was fitted with an Okrasa Motor Werks 1,400cc flat-four, and it received a repaint in gray and a refresh of the interior. A 12-volt electrical system, an Abarth-style exhaust system, and Solex carburetors were also installed. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transaxle, and the car has 15″ steel wheels, a roof rack, chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, an AM radio, and front bucket seats trimmed in light beige vinyl.
The oval-window body was refinished in its current shade of gray under prior ownership, and features a roof rack, a driver-side mirror, running boards, vent windows, and chrome bumpers.
Steel 15″ wheels wear bright hubcaps and are mounted with BFGoodrich tires. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners.
The front bucket seats and rear bench have been reupholstered in light beige vinyl, which extends to the door panels. Gray carpets line the floors, and an AM radio is installed.
An 80-mph VDO speedometer is housed in the body-color dashboard, and the five-digit odometer shows 32k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. The odometer is noted to have rolled over.
